Young At Heart

LILY & ROSE

Here are some photos of Lily & Rose. There are a few from the first time we saw them when they were just 4 weeks old. They would fit on your hand at this age and didn't look much like westies!

IS IT REALLY WEDNESDAY ALREADY?

Time flies, does it not?
Especially the time when you are asleep!
I have to admit to getting up half an hour later than usual. We are really lucky that the puppies never make a sound in the night, or even when they wake in the morning - until one of us goes through to their room of course! They HAD used the paper in their crate for a wee during the night, but thankfully, nothing more than that!
Both pups really seem to understand that, once we have all made a quick fuss of each other, it's time to go straight outside for morning ablutions. This is great, except they still have a bit of difficulty getting over the thresh to get OUT of the breakfast room when they are in a hurry, so I've found a duckboard that we keep in the shower room but don't really use and I've put that next to the door to give them a bit of a lift. It will be much better if they can be totally independent when they want to be outside, instead of relying on someone to give them a lift out.
Well, I wonder what today will bring?
If the puppies are as good as they were yesterday I shall be very happy. Apart from the madness at the end of the day - they were just lovely!
They're having a little play in the breakfast room now. Both pups have thoroughly investigated the duckboard and it does seem to help them to get outside more easily. Of course, Westie pups DO have very short legs (a problem that I share and so I can understand their frustration) so they need all the help they can get and, short of stilts or little puppy platform soles, this seems the best solution.
Lily has played her usual game of 'Top Dog' in the comfy bed that we keep next to the window. She really does seem to see this as HER property, mostly as I said in an earlier post, because of the height advantage it gives her. I made a lovely little video clip of her last night, just before bedtime, when she was in the bed absolutely surrounded by cuddly toys. Look out at the weekend when we will put up the new pics and clips.
I should point out that there is another identical comfy bed for Rose, but for some reason, she doesn't share Lily's attachment to hers.
Both puppies are already starting to look a bit sleepy and will soon be ready to settle down for the post-breakfast nap. A good indicator of their readiness for bed is that they settle down to play a quiet game without feeling the need, or having the energy, to compete with one another and, at the moment, they are lying side by side chewing a cuddly cow that they would usually be fighting over!

There - Rose has already put herself into bed and I've just lifted Lily in as well. She had fallen asleep by the door, but I like to have them contained in their crate just so I know exactly where they are if I happen to have to leave them for any reason.

Great - now for a much needed cappuccino!
