...and I have learned a lesson already.
Knowing that I was going to have to manage the puppies without Charles this morning I greeted them, popped them straight outside for a wee and a poop, then disappeared back indoors for a very quick shower, before going back to check on them. I thought I would be cunning and would use the front door which leads directly to the, as yet largely unexplored territory of the main part of the house. My thinking behind this was that although the puppies can get onto the step, they still find it difficult to get over the thresh and it would buy me extra seconds if the pups decided to follow me into the house. I also thought that the element of surprise resulting from me appearing through the other door would confuse them, again buying me time.
The lesson I learned was twofold:
1) little puppies are not easily conned,
2) they can run faster than me!
No sooner had I opened the door than they were in and racing on their wet little paws towards the cream carpet on the living room, where they split up and went off in separate directions leaving me completely wrong footed! I eventually managed to scoop up both pups and was able to get them back into the breakfast room where they proceeded to get under my feet until I gave them their breakfast, after which they settled down long enough for me to have a wake up cappuccino.
I thought they had settled down for their usual hour's sleep at 8 o'clock, but Lily woke early and appeared to be trying to be sick. She whined a bit and clearly wasn't going to settle, by which time Rose was also awake and wanting to know what her sister was making such a fuss about. Having felt all round Lily's tummy without any adverse reaction (in fact she appeared to be enjoying having a little tummy tickle) I've now put both girls out to play, which they are doing with their usual energy. So I don't know what was wrong with Little Lily, but whatever it was, she seems okay now.
I have also done something this morning that, for anyone who knows me, will come as something of a surprise. I HAVE CUT MY FINGERNAILS! Having worn acrylic nails for ages, last year I decided just to grow my own and had achieved quite spectacular results. However, I now realise that long painted nails are simply not practical when there are two pups around. So I have stumpy short fingernails which may not look fantastic, but it's certainly easier to type without always pressing two keys at once!!
