Young At Heart

LILY & ROSE

Here are some photos of Lily & Rose. There are a few from the first time we saw them when they were just 4 weeks old. They would fit on your hand at this age and didn't look much like westies!

WHEN THE ROUTINE GOES WRONG!

Take my word for it - when the daily routine changes this is not a good thing.
This morning, for example, two things were slightly different from the accepted norm.
1) We got up later than usual and found a wet bed (in the puppy crate, just in case you're wondering!) and 2) I decided that, after days of wearing a cap, it really was time to wash my hair, especially as we're going to that darned party tonight.
The combination of these two slight changes meant that the puppies were not happy. They did not like being made to wait for the attention they usually get at about 6.15 and certainly made this known by grumbling and whining outside even though they had their toys and half a bonio biscuit each. Obviously it just wasn't the same as a bit of human contact and, as a result, when we did get back on track they decided it was payback time and proceeded to think up every naughty trick in the puppy book in order to ensure that such a breach of routine never happens again. (Well I have news for you two; there WILL be times when your little lives DON'T go exactly to plan, and you just have to GET OVER IT!)
At one point in the manic mayhem that continued after they had had their breakfast, Charles and I decided to put them outside for the usual ablutions. The puppies weren't having any of this and each time we put them down they raced us back into the house and managed to win every time, leaving Charles and I to play this crazy game of 'puppy tag' around the kitchen floor. In the end we each grabbed one pup and, using a well known military movement known as a pincer movement, he put one out of the front door and I put the other out of the breakfast room door. We counted down - 3, 2, 1 - and let them go. They were each so surprised to see their sister emerge from a different direction that they lost concentration for a moment and we were able to retreat into the house for a moment's peace.
One other thing that  have learned this morning is that  where I was happily telling Charles that, 'It's okay, they can't get up the front door thresh yet!' I WAS WRONG. THEY CAN AND THEY DID. That just goes to show how much they've grown in the last couple of days. (But probably not as much as a deerhound puppy, eh Dr H!!)
