Does that make sense?
That's how I would describe the puppies tonight. They missed a sleep this afternoon and have been fighting tiredness all evening and now that they're nearly dropping from exhaustion, they just can't settle.
They've just been in their crate where a few minutes ago they both looked ready for sleep, but then they started to nibble each others ears and that developed into a full scale squabble, but without any of the usual sound effects. It was completely silent, as if they really didn't want to be scrapping, but didn't want to give in either.
Now they're both trying out different places around the breakfast room to see if they can find somewhere comfy; their beds are no good, the crate is no good, the towel on the floor where they play is no good, but the doormat MIGHT be alright!
Yes, they're snuggled up on the mat and will just need to be lifted into their crate in a moment - when I am sure they're not just feigning sleep. (As I wrote that last sentence I looked down - and Rose looked at me! Oh no, I've broken the cardinal rule, DON'T LET HER SEE YOU LOOKING AT HER!)
