I'm sure I wrote on this theme a couple of weeks ago, but this evening the puppies have been on a veritable digging spree by the fence. In the tiny little area that is suitable for digging ie a strip about two inches wide, they worked together making a hole as deep as their paws are long. I just sat and watched them, because I was amazed at not only the energy the expended on this, but the speed with which they dug. Their little paws were lightening fast and I was only thankful that they couldn't actually get through the hole once they had finished it.
Combined with the party, all this activity has left the puppies absolutely exhausted and they had both fallen asleep, on the kitchen floor, by nine o'clock. They are, however, a little restless in their sleep, as if they can't get really comfortable. They've probably given themselves sore paws with all that digging!
It was really interesting to listen to the other puppy owners at the party this evening, and it made me realise that our two pups are actually really good little things. They haven't (yet) destroyed anything in the house, they don't get on the furniture (but that could be because their legs are too short), they don't beg for our food, they sleep through the night, and they are responding to training. There were lots of comments about how on earth we are managing with the two of them and everyone agreed that a puppy in the house is just like having a baby. IT IS - ONLY IN OUR CASE, TWINS!
AAAAAARGH!! It's now five minutes since I wrote that the puppies were a bit restless. Sure enough, thanks to Charles having a very animated phone conversation which woke Rose 'Big Ears' Ellis, she is up again and raring to go. (Oh thank you Charles!!) This is where having two puppies is difficult. Lily is still fast asleep, but Rose is determined not to be awake on her own and is busily chewing her sisters ears in an attempt to wake her too. It's only a matter of time before a very disgruntled Lily makes her feelings known.
And there we go...
...BOTH puppies are now up and ready to start the day again.
Oh joy!!
