Ha ha - I bet you thought this was going to be about my mini. But you'd be wrong!!
No, what a difference it makes when you have an hour off from puppy duty!
I think Charles realised this evening that I needed a break from Lily and Rose. Not that they were doing anything out of the ordinary; they just got under my feet when I was cooking and punctuated my evening meal by needing to go out for a poop and then tried to get into the dishwasher while I was loading it, so a perfectly ordinary evening really, but it does get a little tiring when you've been on the go with them all day.
So Charles took over for an hour while I went through to the part of the house I rarely see these days and watched telly. Nothing exciting, just Casualty, but it was so nice to put my feet up for a while knowing that the pups were being supervised by Charles. I think he was disappointed that they didn't settle for the night during his shift, but I wasn't because it meant I could come back to them and enjoy that lovely calm time just before they give in to sleep.
To begin with, when we first got the puppies, I seemed to think that I had to be with them all the time and that I would be failing them if I wasn't always there. Now I'm starting to realise that, actually, this is not good practice. They have to know that there are times when they have to be on their own or be looked after by someone other than me.
To be honest, considering they have been messed around a bit today, they have been absolutely delightful. So far, they're not showing any ill effects from their jabs and haven't been in the least bit grumpy, even though they've missed out on their usual sleeps.
They settled down for the night at about 9.30 and both of them are snoring gently in the crate next to me. Bliss!!!

Is Charles in there with them?
