I wonder if there will be many fireworks tonight?
People don't seem to bother with their own so much these days and tend to go to organised displays. I would imagine there will be a few of these over the next couple of days.
I HAVE heard one or two whizz bangs but nothing that has disturbed the puppies too much yet.
I've never been a great one for fireworks. I think the horror of the potential casualties that result from them always made me extra cautious to the point of actively disliking them. I don't feel the same about pyrotechnic displays though - especially when they come at the end of a Take That concert and have the capacity to reduce me to tears!!
One thing I DO remember with great affection from my childhood, is the food that we used to have on Bonfire Night. Sausages (real ones, not those hot dog things that are probably made from dog food) and jacket potatoes dripping with butter and ginger parkin - yum yum!! That was the best bit of the night for me!
I suppose, like everything else, fireworks have become so common that much of the impact of November 5th has been diminished. They're at weddings, parties and most big celebrations. Perhaps we should have them at funerals and then we could say, 'So and so went out with a bang!!'
At the moment we're all sitting crammed into the little breakfast room, where Charles is on the floor giving the girls their evening grooming session. This must be heaven for Lily who adores any amount of fuss. However, when it comes to Roses's turn in a minute it'll be a different story as she will only be brushed under sufferance. It's a pity really as she has such a long coat and is the one who really needs it. She's just a bundle of fluff!
