LILY & ROSE

Here are some photos of Lily & Rose. There are a few from the first time we saw them when they were just 4 weeks old. They would fit on your hand at this age and didn't look much like westies!

I'M BEGINNING TO DREAD...

WALKIES!
It is, in my opinion, almost impossible to train two puppies at the same time - unless you are a professional animal trainer maybe.
The whole process seems to be a battle from the minute I reach for their leads. Getting these clipped onto their collars is a work of art, because the pups are so excited they jump around and even run off with the leads. We invariably get into a tangle before we've even left the house and once we get through the gate it's every dog for herself - with me somewhere between the two, who are usually intent on going in opposite directions.
I am trying VERY HARD to get them to walk close to me, but this isn't easy. It is compounded by the fact that when there are two of us walking them, Charles tends to take Lily and let her have a long lead which isn't conducive to walking to heel. He walks ahead, with Lily running around and I follow with Rose trying to catch Lily. Obviously this is NOT the most effective way of training them.
I usually walk Rose on the left and Lily on the right - or that is what I TRY to do. The reality of it is somewhat different and both pups tend to run across me, so that I'm constantly afraid of stepping on them.
On our return to the house, Rose has taken to sitting down at the end of the drive and refusing to budge, as if she isn't wanting the walk to end and the only way I managed to get her in today, short of picking her up, was by bribing her with treats.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???

  1. According to the font of all canine knowledge you should simply pick her up and take her in. Means she's not getting what she wants. Giving treats at the end of the drive is pandering to her and she'll take to digging her heels in regularly. Mind you Isla used to indulge in such mulish behaviour as a pup and became an extraordinarily lazy dog..........but this is unusual
