Well we've had not one, but two telephone engineers her for the best part of the day. As predicted it would appear that we have exactly the same problem as earlier in the year and that to sort it out involves digging up the grass verge at the front of the house to get to the problem area. Of course, what you need to know is that your standard BT engineer DOES NOT DO DIGGING and this part of the job is sub-contracted out to another company. Interestingly, during the summer, the people in BT's call centre had absolutely NO IDEA which company was doing the work, nor when it was likely to be done! Anyway, the first of the engineers who came today assures me that we won't be waiting weeks and that someone who IS qualified to dig should be out later today or tomorrow at the latest. Well, as it's now nearly 3.30 and there's only about half an hour of daylight left, I can't really see it being today, so let's see what happens tomorrow.
The puppies have been extremely distressed by the comings and goings of these engineers, especially as wherever they go they seem to beep loudly at a pitch that must be excruciating for little dogs - or even big ones I would imagine. Consequently, now that they've gone, the girls are catching up on their beauty sleep! (It isn't the engineers themselves that beep - but the equipment they carry)
We went to Morpeth this morning, It wasn't pleasant! The supermarket was, yet again, full of the old, slow and seriously demented - in fact it was so busy there was gridlock at one point - seriously! However, eventually I managed to escape, having ended up with the cashier who's got the bet on Ollie to win X-Factor and having had to listen to her yabbering on for ages again, and treated myself to coffee and a scone in M and S.
