LILY & ROSE

Here are some photos of Lily & Rose. There are a few from the first time we saw them when they were just 4 weeks old. They would fit on your hand at this age and didn't look much like westies!

HAS ANYONE...

... ever used a pressure cooker?
I only ask because I have considered getting one, but I'm kind of frightened by them, but today I overheard a conversation between to women who obviously use theirs a lot - even for making things like jam and marmalade.
My only experience of them is the one my mum used to have that had lots of complicated weights and made a scary hissing noise. I haven't a clue about how you use one, so if anyone has any advice they can pass on, I'd love to hear it.
(If pressure cooking significantly cuts down the amount of energy one uses, Charles will be rushing out to buy one before you can say beef in red wine!!)

  1. Blog post swap. The Adonis-like Douglas Hall and Freddie Shepherd put paid to all that style and beauty in Newcastle malarkey. Actually you may be interested to know that I went to Stakeford Primay School with Douglas in the 1960s and played on the same football team as him (as did John Trewick - you may remember him playing for Albion and Newcastle) We were good friends and he was a really nice boy but we were never allowed in his house on the Wansbeck Est., however his mother, Mary, was a dinner lady at our school and she was really kind and thoughtful in a way that his dad wasn't and she went out of her way to make things like toffee apples for us kids at school....in a pressure cooker probably.

  2. So, in keeping with my swapped blog post..... my advice to you on Pressure Cookers if you get one is:

    1. Learn to fear the weight.

    2. Treat the weight with kindness and respect lest it begin to stalk you

    3. Tape it to the back of the drawer when not in use, explaining as you do so, why you are doing it...not directly to the weight you understand (people will think you're mad - and the weight will immediately sense your fear and exploit it) but talk out loud to yourself about how you need to protect such a delicate and essential piece of kitchen equipment against the culinary ruffians of the drawer. And try to sound like you mean it!!!

    4. Either that or invest in a slow cooker. You have the time and the energy consumption is minimal and even though it may take several weeks to cook a stew you will sleep safely in your bed at nights
