... that Marabini's IS in fact better in all respects than our much loved Gianni's. We've had a fab meal this evening (in fact I'm now so stuffed I may not be able to eat anything tomorrow!) the staff were attentive without being obtrusive, we were given a table next to the heater because I was cold when we arrived, the food was superb and the ambiance was warm and friendly. Now MOST of this could be said about Gianni's, but the decor there is tired and dated, it's quite claustrophobic and there's no room between tables, so you end up listening in to other peoples' conversations (and vice versa of course) and, although the food is lovely, it hasn't quite got the refined edge that Marabini's does.
So, all in all I have to say it was a good choice James. Well done! (Charles says we will have to take Helen and Bill there next week.)
I've just watched Carols from Kings, so now feel very festive and Christmassy. Everything is done and we are just about to sit down with glasses of mulled wine (or I might go for Tia Maria)

We had a great meal at the 'Fox Cub' last night .....http://www.vintageinn.co.uk/thefoxcubwalmerbridge/...we'll go next time you come down/ over.
