And the day of the BIG OPERATIONS.
How sorry did I feel for the pups this morning as they first of all had to do without their breakfast and were then bundled into the car to be left at the Fairmoor vets.
I have to confess that I was a bit of an emotional wreck and had a few tears before we left the house, but had thankfully pulled myself together by the time we were talking to the vet who was going to be doing the surgery. In fairness, he was very reassuring and clearly used to dealing with nervous dog owners, because by the time we left them (about 9am) I was feeling much better about the whole thing.
We set off from Morpeth straight into town and thankfully, we didn't get a phone call from the surgery. We had had to give our mobile number just in case anything went wrong and we were needed quickly, but everything had gone well we were eventually informed when we checked in at about 3pm. The pups had come round and although they were obviously sore, were doing okay. In addition to their operation, both pups also had their microchips fitted nd their nails and fringes cut!
We were able to collect them at 4pm and brought them straight home. Before we left the surgery we were told that Lily was taking a bit longer than Rose to start coming round properly and that has certainly been the case since we've been back. Rose , although clearly in discomfort, has managed to move around quite a bit and has even eaten some tiny bits of chicken. Lily has only left the security and comfort of her crate once and is spending most of her time asleep - which is perfectly understandable.
It's the tiny little whimpering noises that are breaking my heart. Both pups are trying so hard to be brave but can't help making this sad little sound.
I'm going to see if they can eat a little meal in a while - just a bit of chicken and rice.
I'll check in again later and let you know how we're doing.
(While we were out, we DID buy them both a Newcastle United top, but I don't think they'll be wearing them tonight!)
