... about what to do for the next week.
Obviously our priority is to try to get back BEFORE our scheduled flight next Wednesday, but we were given no hope of getting a standby flight which is what we had been hoping for.
We can't afford to stay here much longer and would like to find somewhere cheaper, but the predicament is...
... where can we go and yet still be within easy distance of JFK SHOULD the improbable happen and we get an email telling us we're good to go? We've been to a travel agent where we were advised to take the opportunity to do a drive holiday heading north towards Boston. Under normal circumstances we would have loved to do this, but it just seems wrong when we should be back home and working. (Well Charles and James should anyway)
Please don't imagine that we are seeing this as an extension of our original holiday, because it really isn't like that. Maybe it was initially, but the appeal of the Big Apple is waning with each extra day we spend here. Our priority is to get home and we literally spend all our time looking for possible ways out of here. Trying to get to Spain was one real possibility, but we can't get a flight there either.
James thinks we should try to sail back, but the next available boat doesn't leave until the 29th and then takes a week to get to Southampton, so that isn't being given serious consideration yet.
So we still don't know what to do. We are totally in limbo and getting more frustrated with each day that passes. It is actually a gorgeous day today and yet we are stuck in our room watching news updates and trying to make some sort of decision about what to do. It's a good job we all get along together, otherwise we would probably have come to blows by now.
