THE LAST DAY - HOORAY!
Had a bit of a restless night. I think it was all the nervous tension (combined with wrestling with the Chinese meal and cocktails!)
We've got a bit of hanging about to do today. We have to vacate the room at 2pm, but won't actually be leaving the hotel until 5ish for our trip to Newark. The actual flight doesn't leave until 8.50 and I don't think any of us will be really happy until we are in the air after the last fiasco that saw us leaving JFK despite being checked in.
We had another tense moment last night as BA's online check in wasn't working so we had another half hour wait to get through on the phone, but eventually managed to get checked into reasonable seats.
Still, by this time tomorrow we should be home. We'll be letting Dannymatt know our ETA shortly.
I honestly cannot remember ever being so relieved to be coming home - but then I've never had two little Westie girls waiting for me before!
Charles has finally agreed to buy a big case and this should help reduce the likelihood of having to pay for excess baggage, so after our last breakfast that is one thing we need to sort out.
We've taken plenty of photos (James has insisted that I cull mine a bit and I've now got them down to about 250) which we're putting into a slideshow and will publish when we get back home.

That's not too many photos. We used to have friends when I was first married who always seemed to have a lot more money than we did and were always jetting off here there and everywhere....and that was fine don't get me wrong. But the thing that bugged us was that everytime they'd come back - without fail - they would moan along the lines of "Oh God the weather was awful, the hotel room was too small, the flight was delayed, the people were rude, the staff didn't speak English, there was nothing to do, nothing to see, no swimming pool...BUT WE STILL TOOK 5000 PHOTOGRAPHS FOR YOU TO LOOK AT!!"
ReplyDeleteI've taken hundreds but I've decided to prune and edit because there are some very good ones that will look good at full size - which I'll put on a CD.
The real reason behind this of course is that Wendy wishes to be edited out of the frame as well as the untidiness and mess, dirty cushions, plague-like devastation etc - ah me! if only life was so easily adjusted :o)........... no not you for goodness' sake, dear.... I meant the mess....CLEARLY!
Well, IF our aircraft all fly to schedule then we will arrive at Newcastle Airport at 11:10am. I suspect it will take another 20 minutes to get bags and clear customs. We're getting a taxi home (that will need a roofrack or a trailer) and expect to get there by 12.15'ish. Id guess that if you can make it up any time after 12.30 that time it would be good. We should have at least get in, opened bags and had a quick sort out!
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll be able to stay with us for a little while at least. Lots to talk about and we can do that over the days and weeks ahead of course.
You've been a star. Well you all have. I can see how attached Cathy has become of Lily and I think we'll have to make her Lily's official 'Aunty Cathy'! She can come and see her any time she wants to.
Tomorrow afternoon will be a round of washing, ironing and food shopping! I just hope we're not all too jet-lagged!

Just had a thought about this...
ReplyDeleteDannymatt has got our house keys - so he'll need to be back home before we arrive otherwise we'll be locked out!
Maybe you should aim to get to our place before 12 noon then matey!
:o).....which is why I've been on about the ETA, trying to organise things so you're not waiting around after such a terrible "ordeal"...:o)
ReplyDeleteI WILL be there at the right time, with the merchanise, but I'm making contingency arrangements should there be, heaven forbid, any further delays. I wasn't a captain of industry for nothing you know...:o/ oh wait....yes I was....strike that. Some of more the useful thought processes and organisational grey matter still work though.
I'd hoped NPL would distribute more widely to nationals! I did the same over here with New York Times. BA's response is typical - avoid the issues raised!
ReplyDeleteVery much looking forward to seeing you (and L&R of course) tomorrow!
