It began well enough - apart from the dead mouse of course - but the weather was gorgeous, sunny and warm and we sat outside with the pups for a while. This may well have been while most people were still in bed enjoying their Sunday lie-in, but never mind, we enjoyed it regardless of the early hour.
Unfortunately the lovely start to the day was just that - a lovely start - because since then we've had pretty torrential rain and all hopes of taking the girls out for another long romp have been shelved for the time being.
Charles and I set off at 9.00 on a mission to buy every mouse trap we could get our hands on, only to realise that it's Sunday and nothing opens until ten, ten-thirty or even eleven o'clock. Why bother, I ask myself?
So we turned round and came home and then had an argument about what we are going to do to eradicate the problem for good. Charles seems quite happy to catch the little buggers and kill them in the traps, whereas I want to stop them getting into the house in the first place, even if this means investigating under the decking and round the drainpipes to find where they are getting in.
Our next door neighbour is a pest control guy and I keep suggesting that we could ask him to come and have a look (we could also point out the trauma that the girls are suffering because of his labs) but for some reason Charles seems reluctant to do this. Surely, he would be able to tell us how they are getting in and then we could target our efforts at addressing the actual point of entry.
So - I'm not liking today very much so far! Come on Richard, help me perusade your brother that we've got to get to the root of the problem!!
