But we're almost finished!
In fairness, I have to say that we thought we were COMPLETELY done at 5.30. Charles was busy tidying up and washing out the paste bucket and I was hanging the mirror, when I looked up and realised that we'd managed to miss the bit over the kitchen door!! "Don't wash the paste away Charles, we've missed a..." Too late came the cry! Nice clean bucket - no paste - have to get more tomorrow! Sod it!!
Then we had James coming round to watch the footie (won't make any comment about THAT)and to stay the night. He brought with him not one, but TWO bags of laundry (bless him) and me being me, I had to get the whole lot done before calling it a day.
We've had fun and games with the smoke alarms again today. They've been going off for no reason whatsoever and things got so bad that Charles turned the switch off in the fuse box.We thought that was the end of it, until a few hours later when they started again and were clearly NOT going to stop. The dogs were absolutely beside themselves by now; Rose furiously yapping and Lily trembling frantically. At this point after about half an hour of incessant noise - Chares cut the wires on all three alarms!! Now I know this isn't wise - but there is clearly a fault and they would still be going off now if he hadn't taken drastic action.
So tomorrow, we need to contact the manufacturer to find out what the hell's the matter with them. We also need to get wallpaper paste!

This happened to me recently. The back up batteries needed to be replaced. It was a warning
ReplyDeleteThat could indeed be the case - BUT we can't find any batteries anywhere within the alarm fittings.
ReplyDeleteWe'll get you to have a look on Thursday!!
Yes of course, but there should be a cunningly disguised little tray / drawer thingummyjig along its circumference (I nearly said “side” there – but of course it should be “face”....not even circumference which is 2 dimensional. And it is a cylindrical prism of course, with 3 faces – 2 circles and a rectangle (or square)... ah but is a square a rectangle? Are all rectangles oblongs but not all rectangles, oblongs? How many sides does a circle have? One? Does a side have to be straight? Because it’s definitely not a straight one? Does it have an infinite number? Like the circle formed by curved stitching....but is that a quasi circle? And that would mean that a cylindrical prism (or quasi cylindrical prism) would have an infinite number of rectangular (or oblong – and unlikely to be square)faces...which is why the ancient Greeks would use this shape for their columns, of course...and not triangular, square or pentagonal etc ones. The more faces a prism has, the greater its weight bearing capacity....of course! Oh my good God....why do I ruminate so?
ReplyDeleteOr is your minimal heat alarm cone shaped like some? If so.... a cone is 2 faced, so what is the shape of the face which is not a circle? How many edges does it have? How many straight edges? Does it have only one vertex? If so how many straight edges meet at that vertex?
So...er... try looking there...whatever it is!
...and while you're at it...what is the secret of the black magic box?
ReplyDeleteBONKERS!!
