The answer clearly would be, "Extremely" - and I think Dannymatt's ideas for the new soundtrack are spot on to be honest.
I lodged a pretty irate complaint with DeLonghi this afternoon - but completely forgot to insist on a replacement, so Charles is going to get on to them in the morning and will no doubt be even more scathing than I was today.

ANDY MURRAY...
...played a really good game today and what a brilliant way to win the match, three aces on the trot. Well done Andy!
BEES
They appear to be fewer in numbers than the other day. Charles unblocked their airbrick once it became evident that they were not going to accept such an intrusion on their territory lightly. They are clearly still in there, but only appear to be leaving the nest in small numbers now, so the problem has lessened slightly for the time being.
The coffee machine is now receiving emergency treatment somewhere in the Midlands and will hopefully be released into our care by Friday.
Looking forward to seeing our boy this evening and have a little pressie for him. (If you're reading this Jim - it really is just a LITTLE pressie, so don't get too excited!)

GLORIOUS MORNING!
Makes you feel good to be alive!
Got a cake in the oven already, popping out for groceries in a while, then just chilling for the rest of the day.
Sounds good to me.

NOT MUCH TO REPORT TODAY
It's been pretty uneventful to be honest.
Got a cake going out tomorrow - along with matching cupcakes and then I'm going to get started on the Graduation cake for dannymatt. (Well, not actually FOR dannymatt, but you know what I mean)
James will be coming round tomorrow evening and then I think he and Claire are coming for a BBQ on Friday, providing the weather holds up.
So - a pretty relaxed week really.

ENOUGH'S ENOUGH!
Sun, that is.
Just spent a very relaxing morning lazing around and enjoying a new novel.
Had a lovely walk with the girls, who were really too hot to be bothered and gave the impression of coming along with me just to keep me happy!

BEES NEST
We have one - in the airbrick outside the kitchen window. We also have hundreds of bees, that I think we've now made very angry because, following advice on an internet blog, we've shut off access to their home.
Now we're doing the sensible thing and trying to contact local beekeepers to come and help us.
Also - I am sad to announce that my new state of the art DeLonghi bean to cup machine is critically ill and is going to be taken away for emergency surgery tomorrow. Not good enough - we've only had it since April.
Also - the Rubiks Cube cake for delivery to Leicester/Leeds is now not going to happen. This is a good thing!

RUSHING ABOUT...
... in this weather, isn't a good idea.
It's too warm and muggy.
Had to race down to Morpeth, so I could get back before Charles set off for the surgery because I'm expecting a delivery today and Sod's Law says it would have arrived when we were out.
Of course, as I got back in time, there's no sign of it.
I'm trying to persuade the old college friend who's ordered a Rubicks cube cake that he doesn't really want it. We've got to transport it half way to Leicester - and by the time we've done that there will be absolutely no profit in it for me at all.
Unfortunately he seems to have his heart set on it. Grrrrrr!!

OKAY, SO WE SPENT...
... a lot of money on our very posh coffee machine, and it decides to play up this morning.
None of the buttons are working properly and, of course, there's absolutely zilch in the troubleshooting section of the booklet to explain why this particular phenomenon might occur.

SO, IN THE END...
... I have spent the entire day reading (Harlan Coben - and, yes you can have it James!) and have just got to that awkward part with about twenty pages left, when I really do not want to be disturbed and just want to be left in peace to finish it - but at the same time I don't actually WANT to finish it, if you know what I mean.
It's been a long time since I read a whole book in a day (certainly Pre-Pups) and it does feel extremely self-indulgent, but why not? Nothing else was spoiling, and I've thoroughly enjoyed myself!

WHAT TO DO TODAY?
Can't decide.
We're supposed to be in for a heatwave...
... oh no, got that wrong, that would only be in the south-east!
So, still not sure what to do. Really MUST get into the garden before the weeds completely get the upper hand, but right now don't really feel like it.
Trying very hard to eat extremely sensibly - so Sunday lunch somewhere is out of the question. Feel a lot better for having had five days of 'restraint' and don't want to spoil all the hard work.
Don't know what James and Claire are doing. Sometimes that affects our day, but we haven't heard anything so I'm guessing they're having a quiet day at home.
Christina is in the process of moving (don't ask) and MAY need a hand later on.
So - still no nearer knowing what to do today.

ABOUT THIS TIME...
... of day, the girls have been having a chewstick each as a treat.
They have set behaviours for treats. Little cheesy bites are consumed lying down on the mat. They know this and will lie down, in position, in readiness when they see me heading for the 'cheesy bites' cupboard.
Chewsticks, on the other hand, have a whole different set of behaviour. The girls are really possessive about these and have worked out a system where they don't get in each other's way when they're consuming them. Rose takes hers to the crate and Lily stays well away on the mat.
BUT, just recently, a new development has occurred, one which Rose has developed all by herself! Now, instead of contentedly munching away at the same time as her sister, she carries her treat to the crate AND THEN LEAVES IT ALONE all the time eye-balling Lily, who appears completely oblivious.
Only when Lily has finished hers, does Rose emerge from the crate with her untouched chewstick, and she then taunts her sister by parading in front of her with the stick hanging out of her mouth.
Needless to say, Lily doesn't realise that this is the ORIGINAL stick and appears to believe that Rose is getting preferential treatment and, as you can imagine, ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE at this point!!

THIS IS HONESTLY...
... NOT SOUR GRAPES
BUT, I persuaded Charles to try and get out of the house for a bit this morning and, although he struggled, he DID manage to sit and wait for me in the Corbridge Larder. This is the new coffee shop, you may recall, where I missed out on the scone order because, for the only time in my life, I was too late and the decision had already been made.
Well, let me tell you, THEY MADE THE WRONG CHOICE OF SUPPLIER.
Although Charles wasn't up to it, because he's having real problems with his stomach at the moment, I tried a cheese scone and it was a) overcooked and almost black on the bottom b) heavy and stodgy and c) if there was any cheese in that scone I was unable to detect it.
I now feel really annoyed with myself for missing out on this opportunity, but at the time I had no idea there were other potential suppliers involved.
Also, I notice that they're selling slices of mass produced Battenburg and chocolate roll. Why? I though this was an upmarket coffee shop?
What a let down.

BORED NOW!!
Finished the football cake. Was going to wait for hexagon and pentagon cutters to arrive, but couldn't, so just cut everything out by hand. Doesn't look too bad, but is perhaps a trifle plainer than my usual cakes. Still, it's what was requested...
Can't do the gardening as it's raining again. (Well, I could, but it wouldn't be much fun!)
No NUFC news (Not that I'm looking - much!)
Ought to go shopping for food, as have nothing in the house to make a meal out of, but can't be bothered.
Bit out of sorts now really.

GOOD MORNING!!
Just gone 9.30 and I've already got the football cake soaked, filled and covered with the first layer of sugarpaste. Very pleased with myself actually!!
The girls are enjoying the sunny morning and are lounging around on the step outside, soaking up the rays.
I MIGHT just have a break from cake stuff today and get into the garden for a much needed tidy up!

A WATCHED POT NEVER BOILS...
... as the saying goes.
Maybe this applies to NUFC's transfer dealings and the fact that I'm addicted to the blogs again now and keep checking every five minutes to see if I've missed anything exciting.
Clearly I haven't!
So, from now on I'll only go on once a day until the end of the window.
(Mind you, I'd better go and have another quick peek - just in case...)

The girls will be keeping Charles company again. I'm sure he'll be appreciating that!

VERY...
... productive day today.
It was really a day full of fiddly stuff, so a lot of time was taken over producing what amounts to not very much - but all goes towards the bigger picture, if ya kna what I mean, like!
I spent ages trying to find photos of the Magpie mascots because I thought they'd add a bit of interest to the footie cake, but all the pics I could find were pretty useless. Ended up using a photo of one of the soft toys from the NUFC shop!!
Charles has been to the docs today and told to rest (!), but he HAS managed to stagger down to the dog park with the girls. Fortunately it's only 50 yards away and there IS a seat so he can relax while the girls let off steam AND it means he gets some fresh air which has got to be a good thing, bearing in mind his condition at the moment!!

HAVING A BREAK FOR A WHILE.
Made James's cookies this morning - and they do appear to resemble the original Ben's cookies pretty closely. Hope he agrees!
Can't say too much about the other stuff I've been doing without giving away the graduation cake surprise - but it's kept me happily occupied for a few hours!

TWO MORNINGS IN SUCCESSION?
Er.... NO!
Back to normal waking hours!
(The thing is... no matter what time they wake up, the girls are so enthusiastic in their greetings when we go through to them, that it kind of takes the edge off the fact that a few more hours in bed would have been rather pleasant.)
Funny old morning - warm(ish), brilliant sunshine and pouring with rain. Right old mixture!
Okay, I'm going to do some chores, get some cookies baked before James comes round and continue working on bits and pieces for the football and graduation cakes. Happy days!!

LAZY GIRLS!
Clearly Lily and Rose are having a sleepy day today. They're perfectly fine and have gone for their walks and eaten their food and treats - but, following the late start to their day, they've continued in chilled, relaxed mode.
This is very pleasant indeed!
Just heard from my Mum, who's been having a 'rodent ulcer' removed from her head today. She's fine, although will probably be a bit sore later, especially as she's had skin removed from her thigh to graft onto the hole in her head. Being 84, she'd quipped that they may need to iron this little patch of skin first!!

WOW!!! THIS IS A FIRST!
The girls did not wake up at the crack of dawn this morning!
Instead I shot out of bed at 8.30 thinking that something dreadful must have happened to them during the night and found them just stirring in their crate.
Obviously, Charles is still unwell and is at home, but that doesn't usually affect the girls' waking time.
Anyway, even though I had a relatively light day panned, I still feel as though half of it has passed me by!!

PHEW!!
Very warm today!
Finished the Night garden cake this morning. Very OTT, but exciting for a two year old - I hope!
Charles is in bed, so the girls and I are having to tiptoe around!

CHARLES IS...
.. poorly today.
Woke up feeling lousy and is staying at home.
I have to say, I too felt pretty bad last night, but I think that was to do with over-eating at lunchtime. When I think about it, he's been off his food for a couple of days now, and that is most unlike Charles!
Must be a bug I think.
I'll be keeping him well away from the kitchen where I've got a cake on the go today.

RIGHT THAT'S IT!
A week of cuppa soups for me.
Went out for Father's Day lunch (with James and Claire) and ate FAR TOO MUCH and am now feeling decidedly stuffed to the gills and VERY uncomfortable.
SO - that's it, enough's enough (or too much is too much) - and I'm going to get back on track.

JUST NOTICED...

BEEN TO TOWN...
... this morning.
Met James and Claire for coffee and nice things to eat, then had a bit of a wander round. Tried to make up my mind about a new bag for the summer, but couldn't decide and ended up blowing the handbag money on Dior make up instead!
Bit of a wet afternoon, so going to make a start on the Toon supporter model I need for next week.

MY TURN...
... for a lie in this morning, so didn't get up till 8.00!!
Very tardy today.
See we've signed ANOTHER French player today, but worryingly there's talk about Collo going. I had him down as a potential captain for next season. Don't do it Ashley.

BACK TO EARTH!
After the excitement of yesterday, am now thinking about all the implications of taking on the coffee shop. Just hope I'm going to be able to manage it all. I think it's because I don't want to give up making the celebration cakes, as that is what I really love doing at the moment. I suppose a lot will depend on the regularity and size of orders - and I'll only know that in September, so I don't know why I'm worrying about it already!!
Looks like we're in for a pretty dismal weekend. Lots of rain forecast for later today and pretty much all day tomorrow. Great!

DON'T KNOW...

Presumably just spend the afternoon scouring t'internet for Newcastle news!
Starting to get repetitive strain injury in my finger now from constantly refreshing pages!!!

ANOTHER MORNING BITES THE DUST!
Still, it's been productive. Finished the cake for this weekend's 50th birthday, so now can concentrate on the next two - the Night Garden and a football cake. I've got to make a figure wearing his NUFC top, so that'll be fun! (Glad I've not been asked to do one for a Sunderland supporter!)
WONDER...
... if there'll be any GOOD news out of NUFC today. Lots of rumours last night about an unnamed player checking into Jesmond Dene House last night - but probably all rubbish.
Feel really tired today. Don't know why as I haven't done anything much this week. Actually maybe that's it, once you start to relax a bit, lethargy creeps in.
Not sure what's on the cards for today. I will probably get started on covering the cake I made yesterday. It's not going out until Sunday or Monday, so plenty of time.

TRANSFER WINDOW
How many more weeks of this purgatory?
I'm once more addicted to flicking between all the NUFC sites - and everything is doom and gloom.
Even when I'm writing this I've got the other laptop open and am constantly refreshing the page on Ed's blog.
Oh no - SSN are about to talk to Joey Barton at Ascot...

THE MINI...
... appears to be just fine, after it's little paddy yesterday.
Charles checked the coolant level, and it was spot on.
No problem at all today.
DID just wonder if driving uphill at 85mph, in the heat and POSSIBLY in 4th gear (I have SIX) MIGHT have caused it to whinge a bit?

HAVEN'T DONE MUCH TODAY!!!
Apart from a quick (and it was this time) trip to Morpeth (Worryingly had a very hot car when I got back and the fan stayed on after I'd turned off the engine. Maybe needs water? Don't know how to lift bonnet up. Will ask Charles. He won't be pleased.) and making a few bits for cakes, all I've done today is take long, slow (Their fault, not mine. Had to sniff every blade of grass!) walks with the girls and sit in the sun with my Dan Smith book. Sadly I'm nearly at the end of this treat of a book. Can't recommend it highly enough. It's another novel that has film script written all over it.
MAYBE, THIS VIEW SAYS IT BETTER...
There was a great deal of media fuss in the run-up to this taboo-breaking documentary, which followed terminally ill Brit Peter Smedley, as he travelled to the Dignitas assisted suicide clinic in Switzerland to end his life. This, objectors argued, was voyeurism at its worst – and, as the opening credits rolled, we found ourselves wondering if we were really ready to watch another human being die.
Peter, a millionaire businessman in his early seventies, was suffering from motor neurone disease – “ a beastly, undignified business”, as he described it. Before he became completely incapacitated, he had chosen to end his life using the non-profit-making clinic’s £10,000 service.
Last year, just before Christmas, he and his incredibly glamorous wife Christine arrived at the Dignitas building on the outskirts of Zurich – not a log cabin nestling in the Alps, as you’d like to imagine it, but a quirky blue prefab on an industrial estate (Swiss law prevents Dignitas from operating in a residential area).
Two “escorts” were hand to assist – Erika, a white-haired maternal sort who provided tea and chocolate, and Horst who recorded proceedings on his digital camera. “Are you sure that you want to die today?” asked Erika. The answer was an unequivocal “Yes, I’m sure.”
Peter was a lovely, quiet, old-fashioned gentleman and the moment he passed away was incredibly difficult to watch. He kissed Christine goodbye, then turned to Pratchett and the film crew and said: “I’d like to thank everyone, you’ve all been first class.” He swallowed a small amount of clear liquid – “Be strong, my darling,” Christine urged – then gasped and asked for water. A moment later, he fell asleep for the last time.
Afterwards, a clearly emotional Pratchett left the room and went outside for some fresh air. In 2008, the much-loved novelist was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s and has considered taking his own life once the condition becomes too much for him to bear. “I want to enjoy life for as long as I can squeeze the juice out of it,” he said. “And then I’d like to die.”
Despite all the hoo-hah, this thought-provoking film wasn’t in the least bit ghoulish or gratuitous. Put simply, it was the most deeply affecting piece of TV we’ve ever seen.

INTERESTINGLY...
... there has just been a lengthy interview with Terry Pratchett and his producer on Breakfast Time.
Last night's programme has clearly stirred up a huge amount of interest and debate and, like me, there are many viewers who feel they've intruded on something so personal it has made them feel uncomfortable.
I still think the programme was incredibly sensitive and I suppose there's no delicate way of dealing with impending death, but it was just too raw really.

WOKE UP THIS MORNING...
... (obviously, or I wouldn't be writing this)
... but all I can think about is that Terry Pratchett programme from last night. How desperate must you be to make the decision to end it like that? And how on earth does your family cope with the knowledge that you've taken the decision and nothing they can do will change your mind?
I now kind of feel as if I've intruded on something that was so personal and maybe shouldn't have been filmed at all. Obviously the people involved agreed to it - and even, according to Terry, ASKED him to witness the end, but I'm now not so sure it was right for public viewing, even though it was so sensitively dealt with.

GOT TO CONFESS...
.. I've spent more time today on the cake blog than on here!
NOT a sign of things to come, believe me.
Just watched the most incredibly moving programme about assisted death, presented by Terry Pratchett. I don't know if anyone else watched it, but considering the sensitivity of the subject the programme was sensitive and moving without being in any way ghoulish or distasteful.
The calmness of those people in the programme who had chosen to fly to Switzerland knowing that they wouldn't be returning was incredible. There was an absolute conviction that this was the only option and absolutely no sign of hesitation or fear at all.
Not easy viewing, but the sort of programme you simply cannot turn off.

GREY, MISERABLE MORNING!
What happened to summer, eh?
Another couple of weeks and we're at the longest day - and then the nights start cutting in!

JUST IN TIME!
Okay, so we weren't out there long, but managed to get grass cut, edges trimmed, weeding and dead-heading done.
And then the rain came.
Pretty perfect timing really.

WHERE HAS TODAY GONE?
Doesn't seem five minutes since I was getting up and now it's nearly the middle of the afternoon.
The girls have just gone for a runabout at the dog park (with Charles) and we've just been treated to the high-pitched pre-walk conversation they have between themselves whenever the word "walk" is mentioned. It's the only time they do it and it makes them sound a bit like Little Weed on speed - or how I imagine she would sound anyway.
When they get back we're supposed to be getting into the garden, although I have to confess I don't know if I can really be bothered right now.
Wish it would warm up a bit. It was lovely earlier today, but now feels really chilly. Not at all enticing in terms of getting outside.

SHORT STRAW!!
That's what I got this morning.
Charles and I had agreed that each of us would get a lie in this weekend while the other got up with the girls when they woke.
Yesterday was Charles's turn to get up - at around 6.30 I think. I wasn't that far behind as once I'm disturbed I can't just lie in bed because I'm thinking of everything I need to be doing.
Anyway, this morning was obviously MY turn to get up - which I did when the little buggers woke at 5.15am. Clearly something had disturbed them and, after a quick wee outside (them, not me) and some stern words, they DID settle down again for another half hour, but by then the damage was done and although I returned to bed I was just lying waiting for them to decided enough was enough and they needed some attention NOW.
Having said that, there's something really lovely about being up and about when the rest of the village is still slumbering. It's been a gorgeous morning so far, really sunny, and I've quite enjoyed sitting on the step with the girls enjoying a bit of warmth on my face.
Mind you - I'm guessing I'll be first in line for the Sunday afternoon snooze!

BACK FROM MORPETH...
...LOVING my hair!!
Had lowlights put in this time - look a little less like my Westies now!
Called into the newly opened Corbridge Larder for coffee with Charles, James and Claire. Overheard the manager telling someone he couldn't find a decent supplier of scones. Hmmmm - think I might be making some samples to take in next week then!

BACK ON MY LAPTOP...
... so unable to reply to comments. But, just in case you were referring to ME Dannymatt, I don't think I'm the perfect driver by any means. But I DO object to drivers who clearly shouldn't be on the road because they are no longer fit to drive OR who don't give a toss about other road users.
That aside, I'm going down to Morpeth this morning (hopefully without coming across the sort of idiots I had the misfortune to encounter the other day) and will be spending a blissful few hours at SAKs having my colour done. Lovely!

HE LIKED THEM!!
Lovely text message from the guy in Jesmond. Very happy he liked the cakes. Wonder what happens now?
On another note - thank goodness the Cabaye signing is finally official. Hopefully it's just the start of a busy few weeks. Come on Mike - get that chequebook out!

BACK FROM JESMOND...
... Lily and Rose sniffing around me like crazy because the family we dropped the samples off with had a gorgeous little pup, a cross between a King Charles and a poodle apparently - but snowy white and long haired and totally irresistible! Only five months old, she goes by the name of Maisie and "isn't as sweet as she looks" according to Kevin. Oh how I remember those days!!!
ISN'T TODAY...
... supposed to be the day that NUFC announce the signing of Cabaye (spelling?)
Got SSN on, keep switching between News Now, Ed's blog and NU Mad - and NOTHING!
GRRRRRRR

JUST HANGING ABOUT NOW.
Got everything packed up. Kevin (the owner of the studio/proposed coffee shop) rang to say could I go for 4.30, so that's okay.
Got loads of stuff left over. Far too much for Charles and I to consume so if anyone wants anything you know where we are!

JESMOND COFFEE SHOP???
Well, I'm still not at all sure about this, but I'm just about ready to take a range of samples in for tasting this afternoon. Just finishing some cupcakes and scones, then need to get everything boxed up.
Any thing left over will be going to the hairdressers with me tomorrow!! Load of gannets, those girls in SAKs!!
Talking of girls, Lily and Rose are sunbathing on the doorstep at the moment. Looking very relaxed the pair of them - unlike their mum who's probably looking very frazzled!

BAD DRIVERS!!
They were all out today, mostly in or around Morpeth, as I observed to my fury.
It began with two drivers on the A697, both of whom were clearly too doddery to still have a licence and insisted on driving at less that 40mph on a clear A road. I eventually got past one only to come up against the other as we approached Morpeth at a snail's pace and then, when he noticed the 30mph sign he slowed down to about 20. Why??
Not only did these two really naff me off, but I then got cut up on the roundabout at the end of Manchester Street when an total idiot on my left decided to cut in front of me (clearly indicating my intention to turn right) and HE turned to his right also, nearly causing a collision and being totally aware that I'd had to carry out an emergency stop he just gave a little wave and gave me a cheery grin Sod Off you lousy driver.
Then I got stuck behind the learner. This was on Dacre Street where, because it's relatively narrow and cars park on both sides it CAN be a little tricky and you DO have to wait your turn. The driver clearly completely lost the plot (and NO I wasn't up her backside with my foot on the gas, I was really TRYING to be patient and understanding) and the instructor eventually had to get out and take over, probably reducing the poor pupil to a jibbering wreck in the process. It was so obviously a first or second lesson, so WHY take her along that road at all?
Then, on the way out of Morpeth I'd left the 30mph zone and was approaching the garage at Fairmoor having got a bit of speed up and another total idiot pulls out of the garage right in front of me, causing further slamming of brakes on my part.
By the time I got home I was furious, stressed and a nervous wreck.

THE GIRLS...
... had a lovely evening with James yesterday. They love it when he's here (although in fairness, they love it when ANYONE'S here!) and Rose in particular wants to be his best friend! Lots of big cuddles for Jim last night - and then a good brush down to get rid of the hairs!

SLEEPYHEADS!
I've got two very dozy little girls today. Rose is snoring away in her bed, while Lily is flat out on her back, legs akimbo, without a care in the world (or indeed any modesty whatsoever!)
Gotta love them!
Gotta love them!
WHAT'S THIS...

HAVE JUST...
... killed a bird, I think.
At least I'm assuming I have because I was just passing the entrance to the dog park when it kind of dive-bombed under my mini and, after I'd heard the thud, I looked in the mirror expecting to see a flurry of feathers, but instead saw a mass of black gory stuff on the road.
Now, this wouldn't be a big deal to most people, but, if you're like me, you would convince yourself that somehow the bird has survived it's ordeal (leaving the evidence aside) and is clinging to the underside of my car just waiting to peck me to bits when I open the door.
Honestly, this is what I imagined - so it took me a good while to pluck up the courage to get out of the car.
Was it there? Have I been set upon by a beligerent bird?
No, of course not.
(It's probably lying in wait for me to take the girls to the dog park - and it'll get me then.)

MANAGED TO FIND...
... James's birth certificate last night. He'd thrown me into a bit of a panic when he asked me for it the other day. We used to keep all the certificates in a folder in the filing cabinet, but when we had all the work done on the house the filing cabinet went to the tip and I honestly couldn't remember where it's contents had gone.
However, a quick trip into the loft and all was revealed. James William Roderick's birth certificate had been stored safely in a box up there.
I'm quite relieved actually as I had imagined that we would have to apply for a copy of it.
Not sure when he actually needs it, but he can take it away and assume all responsibility for it from now on!

WHERE'S JAMES?
No phone call from him today? That's odd. Must be very busy at work!
Slow day for NUFC news as well. With all the rumours going round I'm spending any free time I've got flitting between News Now, Ed's blog and Newcastle United Mad - but there's nothing doing anywhere.
Right, I'm off to paint some ivy leaves!!

JUST DE-SCALED...
... the coffee machine.
What a nightmare. Only did it because the red light started flashing to tell me it was time for a good clean. Followed the instructions to the letter, but the wretched machine stopped doing what it was supposed to do in the middle of the cycle and there was then a period of about two hours when a) every warning light on the machine was flashing and clearly it wasn't going to be making coffee in a hurry b) Charles had a quick look and then gave up, c) He told me to ring De Longhi tomorrow and get them to sort it out and d) I persevered with the damn thing and eventually ran the cycle again (Just kidding the machine this time as had used all the solution the first time, so only put water through it) and this time it went right through to the end and now works perfectly.
Patience there's a lot to be said for it!

I TURNED MY BACK FOR FIVE MINUTES...
... then noticed how spookily quiet it had suddenly gone.
Couldn't find the girls...
... but eventually located them IN BED!
Lily was buried under a pile of pillows pretending to be asleep and Rose was trying to look all nonchalant, as if she had no idea she shouldn't be there at all!

WELL THERE YOU GO!
I go to Heighley Gate to buy a few bedding plants for the pots at the front of the house and what happens.
Yep - it's raining!
Still I suppose it saves me a job when I DO manage to plant them.
The girls are having a very sleepy day today. I think they're fed up with me at the moment because I'm always occupied with something OTHER than them. Today I've been mostly making flowers. haven't done many yet because I'm kind of trying to work freesias out. I thought they would look stunning, but had forgotten how complex they really are - so it's taking a lot longer than I thought!

LILY HAS...
... really missed Charles the last couple of days.
Normally in an evening we all settle down for 'telly time' in the lounge. Charles sits with Lily who snuggles up to him all evening - and I have Rose who flits between me, watching the TV and getting up every now and then to check that she isn't missing anything anywhere else in the house.
But for the two evenings that Charles has been away, Lily has found it hard to settle without her usual cushion! She HAS tried, bless her, but then has to get up every few minutes to lie by the patio doors overlooking the drive and she's clearly LONGING for him to come home!
Never mind Lily - he'll be back this afternoon!

A FEW WEEKS AGO...
... I bought some dog biscuits from a stall at the Sunday market at the quayside.
They were gorgeous little treats, shaped like bones, coated with doggy-choc and tied with ribbon. Cute or what?
Anyway, the reason I'm telling you this is because I've just given the girls a biscuit each and as soon as they'd finished AND when my back was turned, one of them has been VERY sick.
Got to be something to do with those biscuits, too much of a coincidence to be anything else.
I'll be throwing the rest away and won't be going back to that stall.

BACK FROM NEWCASTLE
Had a lovely time with Claire and James - mostly James because Claire had to go off to get her hair done, But we all had breakfast together and then Jim and I wandered around the shops looking for tops for him which we got without any difficulty and maxi dresses for me, which we didn't get at all because the were all TOO maxi and clearly made for girls who are about 6ft tall!
Bit disappointed actually, but apart from that we had a great time, just mooching about and chatting.
Took the girls out when I got back. They met up with Tess who is a good friend of theirs and had a bit of a roll round together. Still can't believe how cold it is today!
Okay, I'm off to make flowers now...

WOW
What happened to the weather?
It must be at least ten degrees cooler than yesterday - and it's blowing a gale again.
Quite glad I've got a morning in town with James and Claire to look forward to!

I'VE GOT...
... two very hot little dogs here today!
They actually don't know where to put themselves. We've had a couple of very lazy walks and another trip to the dog park, but they really can't be bothered to exert themselves too much.
Mind you - I know exactly how they feel!

MORNING!!
Another gorgeous day on the cards.
Couldn't sleep, so I've been up for hours. House cleaned top to bottom, cake in the oven, hair washed and done - just wanted to get through as much as I could before it gets too warm!
Charles is off to Robin Wood with the kids from school, leaving us three girls to our own devices until Sunday!
Need to go down to Morpeth shortly and then I've got Leigh coming round for her birthday cake. Hope she likes it!!

TOOK THE GIRLS...
... down to the dog park this afternoon.
Usually they hare around like mad things, but today I think it was too warm for them and, although they made half-hearted attempts at playing chase, they really just wanted to lie in the shade. They don't enjoy really warm weather at all and seem to enjoy keeping cool by lying on the tiled floor as opposed to a pile of cushions which is certainly Lily's usual preference. She really makes me laugh because she has to make a little nest before she'll settle down and if she can create a sort of cocoon so much the better. Often all that can be seen of Lily is just a little black nose!

JUST BEEN OUT...
.. in the garden, wielding the strimmer and attacking the weeds!
Got so hot I needed a shower when I'd finished!!
Right, time to take the girls out I think.

Will have to...
... divide my time between this blog and the Cakes A-Go-Go blog now that the latter has been re-launched.
Need to focus once more on my little darlin's.
So, how are the girls?
Well actually they are just great these days. (although unfortunately Charles has just sent them to bed for growling at all the dogs and cats on the pet food edition of Apprentice!)
They've coped really well with a few days in which they have had loads of visitors. Perhaps I can relax a little more about sticking rigidly to routine as we've had some very strange meal times and bed times - even different people in the house providing the food at a much later time than usual and the girls have coped without any problem whatsoever.

WHAT A NIGHT!!!!!
The gig was AMAZING.
A brilliant combination of the TT four, Robbie and then the reformed five with oldies and new stuff superbly mixed into an amazing show.
The atmosphere was electric, we all sang our selves silly and had the best time ever (Well, the best time since the Circus gig)! The two concerts could not have been more different, but it would be difficult to chose one over the other in terms of sheer brilliance.
What a showman Robbie is. It's the first time I've seen him live and he captivated his audience totally within seconds of appearing on stage. The whole show was mesmerising, but I have to say that despite my reservations, Robbie was the surprise of the night for me. Incredible!
The only downside to the evening was in trying to escape Sunderland afterwards. Clearly there had been a major incident in addition to the concert traffic and our two 'taxis', driven by Jake and Bill, were unable to get to us, so we ended up with a considerable hike out of town in order to meet up with them. Rachel reckons we walked twenty miles. It certainly felt like that!
But, that aside, it was an incredible evening and I've woken up this morning with the full repertoire of TT songs doing battle in my head!!
