They were all out today, mostly in or around Morpeth, as I observed to my fury.
It began with two drivers on the A697, both of whom were clearly too doddery to still have a licence and insisted on driving at less that 40mph on a clear A road. I eventually got past one only to come up against the other as we approached Morpeth at a snail's pace and then, when he noticed the 30mph sign he slowed down to about 20. Why??
Not only did these two really naff me off, but I then got cut up on the roundabout at the end of Manchester Street when an total idiot on my left decided to cut in front of me (clearly indicating my intention to turn right) and HE turned to his right also, nearly causing a collision and being totally aware that I'd had to carry out an emergency stop he just gave a little wave and gave me a cheery grin Sod Off you lousy driver.
Then I got stuck behind the learner. This was on Dacre Street where, because it's relatively narrow and cars park on both sides it CAN be a little tricky and you DO have to wait your turn. The driver clearly completely lost the plot (and NO I wasn't up her backside with my foot on the gas, I was really TRYING to be patient and understanding) and the instructor eventually had to get out and take over, probably reducing the poor pupil to a jibbering wreck in the process. It was so obviously a first or second lesson, so WHY take her along that road at all?
Then, on the way out of Morpeth I'd left the 30mph zone and was approaching the garage at Fairmoor having got a bit of speed up and another total idiot pulls out of the garage right in front of me, causing further slamming of brakes on my part.
By the time I got home I was furious, stressed and a nervous wreck.

...and why is it, tell me this, why is it that everyone who gets behind the wheel of a car thinks they're an above average driver? D'oh!
