I was fascinated by the origin of "nostalgia" - I may have been a Latin scholar (No, not 'scholar' that implies a certain studiousness on my part - which I can't honestly claim to have had!) pupil for a time(Ha ha ha!) but I'd never made the connection. Fascinating.

I just made the connection myself after watching the final episode of the first series of the excellent "Madmen" about the advertising men of Madison Ave in the Sixties. Donald Draper was presenting an ad campaign for Kodak's carousel slide projector and he used his own slides looking back over his life, a man who was taking his wife for granted and realising so after the death of his brother (who he denied knowing at first - complex sounding I know). He used the word and spoke movingly of its derivation and how apposite it was for Kodak's new product. It left the execs open mouthed and his own colleagues wrung out with emotion. And me too actually. American TV drama at its very best. Nostalgia
