Sadly, I finished this book last night.
For the past few days I've limited my reading in an attempt to prolong the experience a bit longer, but couldn't keep it up and gave in yesterday! I now feel quite bereft as I had completely immeresed myself in the story and the tough life in an off-the-track Brazilian village.
This book is a real winner and absolutely MUST be made into a film. Rough and violent it may be, but the storyline is absolutely gripping.
Congratulations to Dan Smith. What a brilliant debut!!

Just spotted your review and thought I'd drop a line to say that I'm glad you enjoyed reading Dry Season!

Thank you Dan. Your book was an absolute treat and I was so sorry to finish it - always the sign of a good read.
ReplyDeleteI do think that your marketing people could be doing a better job though, especially in the North East where a 'local' author could be really celebrated.
Really hope you've got nother novel in the pipeline!
Congratulations and I'm looking forward to the film!
(By the way, I do know how to spell 'immersed'!)
Film? That would be great! The next book is out in May and it's called 'Dark Horizons'.
ReplyDeleteAs for marketing - well, there's not much money available for that these days, and mostly it's spent on the big names. Authors have to rely on themselves to try to get the word out. As you can imagine, though, it's not that easy.
