And I think it's ROSE!
They've been asleep for well over an hour now, and are just beginning the slow process of coming round. This can take anything up to twenty minutes and involves a lot of wriggling in their sleep and changing position before they finally have to force their eyes to stay open.
About an hour has passed since I wrote that paragraph. As they DID wake up I didn't get a chance to finish what I was writing. They were actually woken from their slumbers by the arrival of Christina who was coming for a coffee. They LOVE Christina and make a real fuss of her (and her slippers)!
Anyway, she's gone now and the puppies are exercising their lungs outside, but not for long because I don't want the neighbours complaining! I don't know what imaginary foe has set them off, but they're certainly giving it hell. I said to Charles last night, that I don't think we'll ever have to worry about intruders because the pups would sense their arrival before they even got through the gate!
They've had their meds, or one lot at least. They had the clogging up one which is a sort of chalky paste. Rose was fine with hers, but Lily ended up spitting hers all over my hand. Fortunately I was holding a tiny bit of puppy treat, so managed to persuade her to eat the treat and lick the medicine at the same time.
We've had a few minutes in the back garden on the leads but they were a bit overwhelmed when the big labrador next door started barking at them. We didn't come in straight away because I didn't want them to think they had to run away from him, but neither did we hang around much longer either.
I've been trying to work out which, if either, of the puppies is 'Top Dog'. In most things they are pretty easily matched, but if it came to a no holds barred fight I would have to put my money on Lily. She is a dirty fighter as well and will engineer situations where she knows she can wind Rose up. That's not to say that Rose is a pushover, because she's certainly not and there are times, particularly when Lily is getting tired, when Rose will take advantage of this and give her a good nip. A case of six and two threes really. Looking at Lily I suppose she appears to be the more fragile of the two, but appearances are certainly deceptive.
In terms of their training though, I do think that Rose has the edge. She is a little more biddable and slightly less excitable than Lily and tends to have more patience. Lily, on the other hand, gets a bit distracted by all the sights, smells and sounds outside and sometimes these take precedence for her. A case of 'Could do better' Lily!
